Addiction is a very common problem in the LGBT community. The pressure that comes along with being gay or transgender takes a huge toll on a person’s mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Addiction also greatly affects these areas of life and it often becomes too much for a member of this community to handle. They come to us with a desperate need to change all of these aspects of their lives. A key ingredient to any Holistic approach is teaching mindfulness. Mindfulness practices have been shown to greatly improve the lives of suffering addicts. This practice of being self-aware of your inner experience on a moment to moment basis has been taught in Eastern religions for thousands of years.

  • Many Eastern religions have practiced mindfulness for thousands of years.
  • Mindfulness is the practice of recognizing your inner awareness on a moment-to-moment basis.
  • Jon Kabat-Zinn introduced these practices in the United States as an alternative for people with terminal illnesses or chronic pain for whom medicine was no longer effective.
